Leaving Cert Higher Level Irish for Adults
Commencing Thursday, September 20th we will be offering a 26 week course for adults who would like to study higher level Irish for the Leaving Certificate examination in June 2019. This course will mostly suit people who have previously sat Leaving Cert Irish at ordinary level or even at higher level but who failed to gain the necessary grade which would allow them to apply for a primary school teaching course. It will take place every Thursday from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.. As usual, there is a lot of interest in these classes. For those who commit and are prepared to put in the time and work, there is a high success record. Classes are taught by an experienced Irish teacher and are supplemented with detailed study notes. A lot of emphasis is placed on the spoken language as the Irish oral examination now accounts for 40% of the marks.
Established in late 1983, the Study Centre has catered for a great many people. It provides a comprehensive after school tuition service mainly to second level students, particularly exam students looking to achieve higher grades and also for those who might be struggling with their studies. There are also specialised day seminars/workshops that take place in a range of Leaving Cert subjects and topics throughout the year in addition to Study Skills classes which get under way from the end of September. The Galway Study Centre
One of the first tutorial Centres to be established in Ireland outside of Dublin, our Centre at Mill Street Galway has now been around for over 33 years. Thousands of students have attended our Centre. They have experienced the benefit and the enjoyment of classes given by some of Galway’s best known teachers. The combination of regular full-time schooling and additional tuition at Mill Street has helped many to achieve their potential in a way that they might not otherwise have managed alone. During this time, the Study Centre tutors have assisted students in obtaining some remarkable examination results, particularly Leaving Cert students trying to gain entry into third level institutions.
Lots of Galway people, many of whom are now parents themselves, will attest to the valuable educational experience that they received at Mill Street. At the core of any educational establishment are the people who work there. We believe we have built up one of the best teams of teachers in the country who year after year offer an excellent teaching service to secondary school students. While there are now a multitude of options available in terms of tutorial schools, private grinds, online based tuition and textbook assistance, we see ourselves at the Study Centre as being to the forefront in providing an excellent educational experience based on superb classroom teaching. This experience has truly made a big difference in helping students to perform better at examination time and it is the quality of the teaching which continues to enhance the reputation of the teachers who work here.
